Surveillance

Timely and reliable access to FMD information improves the quality and cost-effectiveness of FMD surveillance, enhances early warning response to new emerging FMD virus threats, and supports prevention, improved management and more targeted evidence-driven decision-making processes for FMD control

Through the openFMD platform, we aim to strengthen the prevention and control of FMD by real-time monitoring and reporting of disease events at both regional and global levels through an effective digital surveillance system that enhances early FMD virus threats detection and assessment.

openFMD analytical resources for FMD surveillance

  • FMDwatch collates detailed FMD surveillance data continuously gathered from the field, detected, assessed and reported by both the WOAH/FAO FMD Reference Laboratory Network and the World Animal Health Organisation (WOAH) through the World Animal Health Information System (WAHIS) portal, providing an advanced tool to interrogate FMD events for visualisation and mapping.
